Book Review: The Grapes of Wrath

It took me a while but I finally finished reading this book that my high school did not require us to read. I started it when we were driving to Tennessee thinking it would be a good road trip book. It was not good for that all, as it is pretty depressing. I gave up and read “Why Not Me” later and after that comic relief, I returned to this. I enjoyed it, as I have enjoyed Steinbeck’s writing style in the past. The main thing I took away from it though was how similar of a situation the Oklahomans were in compared to the Syrian refuges now. I really do not know what the best political move is for our country and helping these refugees, but emotionally I feel we should not repeat the past and make other families struggle so much after their home is taken away. I think this article sums up the similarities well.
