I just finished Harper Lee’s sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird, Go Set a Watchman. When I heard this book was coming out, I was very excited to read it, especially since its actually the original manuscript she wrote that then inspired her to write the first book. After reading To Kill a Mockingbird in 10th grade I was intrigued but finally in 11th grade after incorporating it into a paper did I learn to appreciate the story. The sequel was equally riveting. It was very similar to the first book as it is a lot of anecdotal stories stringed together to bring more detail to the main story. There were a few shocking changes that have occurred since the last book as well. I did enjoy reading more stories about Scout’s childhood from her memory. This is definitely a tale about growing up. I hope they will incorporate this sequel into American literature classes as well as it definitely adds a lot of conversation from the last book.
